Every day of the pre-cleanse (days 1-4) and post-cleanse (days 9-12) you'll be eating some raw, fresh grated beets. If you have a vata accumulation or are cleansing in a cold weather climate, you can lightly boil the beets to reduce getting to much of the air element.
Why beets?
Take a spin through this article to learn all about the many benefits.
For the purposes of the cleanse, I'll skip right to this quote, "The phytonutrients in beets are also amazing for decreasing inflammation in the liver and kidneys, and facilitating the detoxification of these organs by increasing the production of glutathione, which is the body's natural detox mechanism," says Doyle. (Younkin, 2024 - Eating Well)
NOTE: If red beets bother you, substitute with golden yellow beets. If beets are an issue, you can drink 2-4 oz of unsweetened tart cherry juice on an empty stomach.
Ingredients:
2-3 small to medium sized red beets; grated
1-2 limes (use lemons if you have an aversion to limes); juiced
Pink Himalayan salt to taste
Directions:
This will make enough for four days of beets for the pre-cleanse or post-cleanse. In a medium mixing bowl, grate the beets. Squeeze the juice from limes or lemons over the beets and sprinkle with pink Himalayan salt. Mix thoroughly.
Consumption:
Every day of the pre-cleanse and post-cleanse, you'll eat 3-4 tablespoons or up to 1 whole beet. You are welcome to mix them into a salad, chia seed pudding or other meal, but they should be eaten raw.
